The Magic of Bees: Why They’re the Real MVPs (And Why Raw Honey is Liquid Gold)

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from beekeeping, it’s that bees are way cooler than most people realize. Sure, they make honey (which is reason enough to love them), but did you know they also help grow most of the food we eat? They’re like tiny, buzzing farmhands—working tirelessly, asking for nothing in return except a few flowers to visit.
But let’s talk about their most delicious gift—raw honey. Not the overly processed, syrupy stuff you find in plastic bear-shaped bottles at the grocery store, but the real deal—honey straight from the hive, just as the bees intended.
Bees = The Ultimate Pollinators
Ever wonder how apples, cucumbers, or pumpkins end up on your plate? Bees. They flit from bloom to bloom, spreading pollen and ensuring plants can produce fruit. Without them, a lot of our favorite foods would struggle to grow—or worse, disappear completely!
At Swift Acres, our bees do more than just keep our honey jars full. They pollinate wildflowers, fruit trees, and vegetable plants, helping our little farm thrive. Watching them work is fascinating—they have a whole system, complete with jobs, a queen, and even a special bee dance to communicate. Yes, they literally dance to tell each other where the good flowers are.
Why Raw Honey is Liquid Gold
Now, about that honey. If you’ve never had raw, unpasteurized honey, you’re missing out. Unlike store-bought honey that’s often heated and filtered until it loses most of its benefits, raw honey is packed with natural goodness.
The Benefits of Raw Honey:
✔️ Loaded with Nutrients – Raw honey contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help support overall health.
✔️ Natural Energy Booster – Skip the processed sugar—raw honey provides a longer lasting, natural energy boost.
✔️ Soothes Sore Throats & Coughs – It’s been used for centuries as a natural remedy for colds.
✔️ Supports Digestion – Contains enzymes that aid in digestion and gut health.
✔️ Antibacterial & Healing Properties – Raw honey has been used for wound healing and skincare for ages.
And let’s be real—it just tastes better. Each jar of honey is unique, changing with the seasons and the flowers the bees visit. One batch might have subtle notes of wildflower, while another has a deeper, richer flavor. No two harvests are ever the same, which makes it even more special.
A Little Bee Appreciation
Next time you drizzle honey into your tea, over warm toast, or into a recipe, take a second to appreciate the tiny workers behind it. These little bees are doing big things!
And if you want to support them, consider planting bee-friendly flowers like lavender, sunflowers, or wildflowers in your garden. Every little patch helps.

And to get you started, here’s one of our family’s favourite ways to use our raw honey :
Easy 2-Ingredient Whipped Honey Butter 🍯🧈
If you’ve never made honey butter before, prepare to have your mind blown. It’s ridiculously simple, incredibly delicious, and perfect for spreading on warm biscuits, toast, or pancakes.
You’ll Need:
• ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
• ¼ cup raw honey
How to Make It:
1. In a bowl, whip the butter with an electric mixer (or a fork if you’re feeling rustic) until light and fluffy.
2. Drizzle in the honey and continue whipping until fully combined and smooth.
3. Spread it on everything. Seriously.
You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla for extra flavor. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two, or in the fridge for up to a week (if it lasts that long!).
Until next time,
Marci Swift
